As electric vehicle (EV) adoption by public and private fleets continues, there is a risk of EVs not being able to perform critical operations (such as, restoring water/electricity, moving debris, transporting individuals to warming shelters) during a grid outage. To ensure the region is prepared for this scenario, NCTCOG and stakeholders will develop the North Texas Resilient Electric Vehicle Charging (NTX-REV) Plan.
HOW WILL THE NTX-REV PLAN BE DEVELOPED?
NCTCOG and stakeholders will meet regularly through July 2028 to:
- Identify key risks and weaknesses related to providing power to EVs performing critical operations during grid outages,
- Assess and compile information from existing resilience EV charging,
- Identify resilience technologies and strategies that could be used to support EV charging during grid outages.
- Conduct tabletop scenario exercises to test proposed strategies.
- Complete a real-world demonstration of resilient EV charging.
